I began my career as a Staff Nurse in the Surgery Department at Emanuel Hospital and Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. In 1989 I was invited to open Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi on the island of Oahu, Hawaii as Head Nurse. (I still carry a valid nursing license.)

I began representing Carl Zeiss under another distributor in 1991, then launched my own distributorship, Hawaii Surgical Specialties, in 1993.
